It all started round about February 2009. I was attending a funeral of someone I did not know well. But bikers always stand together when a fellow biker needs a biker’s funeral. His name was Piet. (RIP).
After the service we decided to do what we do in situations like this, we all went for a cold beer to lessen the pain and tension... At a pub called "Elephant” we sat down and started talking about the biking scene and Dipper mentioned, "Why don’t we start a bike club...?" From there the idea grew to where we are today..!
We had a few ups and downs in the beginning and it is still funny that people can ride together for a long time in harmony and the moment you put a name to it ...things become complicated. We handled it well and today we are moving forward strongly.
We are all from different back grounds and professions, however, one thing we have in common is Bike Riding." Some of us have been in the biking scene for many years and some are still very new. We always help new riders by providing them with guidance in terms of safety and share our experiences. The idea is to educate them and equip them with the skills to ensure that they do not become another bike fatality statistic….!
We attend most of the big bike rallies all over South Africa and always strive to include our loved ones with the experience as well. We are family biking orientated, and respect our fellow bikers in all respect. We promote the Brotherhood of biking within EQUITY RIDERS and we always care and look after each other, ALWAYS...!! During these rallies we normally stay over at B&B,s, Hotels and sometimes tents, depending on where the rally is. This is to accommodate our loved ones that attend the rallies with us.
We do official breakfast runs the first and 3rd Sunday of every month. We get together at a nominated point ( usually Rhapsody’s in Centurion) from where we depart in an orderly manner. There will always be a Road Captain and a Sweep, the Sweep being the last rider in the pack. He will assist any break downs. The breakfast run can be organized by any member of EQUITY RIDERS and he will also then be the designated Road Captain for that run. On route to the venue we will adhere to hand signs from the road captain to keep the bikes in a staggered format and if required, single formation. These hand signs are there for our safety and will be explained to members before every run. On the way back the riders are free to ride at their own pace. We always try to do the run early so that members can spend the Sunday afterternoon with their families.
Follow us on a more day to day basis by joining our Facebook Group EQUITY RIDERS
We do not believe in a power struggle and any member is free to sit in on meetings and provide their input.
